CAAs are leading providers of Energy Efficiency Assistance for low income households. Through the federal Weatherization Assistance Program and through their partnerships with many of the state’s utility companies, CAAs have resources to help qualified households reduce their energy use and lower their utility bills. Some of the services and improvements include the following:
• Home energy audits
• Wall and attic insulation
• Furnaces/refrigerators/water heaters
• Programmable thermostats
• Compact fluorescent light bulbs
• Window and door repairs
• Other energy saving products and services
MCAAA, through expert witnesses and attorneys, intervenes on behalf of low-income customers in utility rate cases through the Michigan Public Service Commission. Our goal by doing so is to have the Utility Consumer Participation Board issue grants to qualified groups to ensure equitable representation of the interests of residential ratepayers or classes of residential ratepayers at supply and cost review proceedings and at cost reconciliation proceedings before the Michigan Public Service Commission.
